Week 5 – Independence & Style Development

 

Beginners

  • Putting it all together: paddling, takeoff, stance, and simple turns

  • Building confidence to surf independently in small surf

  • Celebration surf session with feedback & encouragement

 

Intermediates

  • Refining maneuvers: cutbacks, speed generation, smoother transitions

  • Developing personal style and flow

  • Small surf challenge: linking turns across waves

  • Visualization for long-term surf goals

Week 4 – Building Confidence in the Lineup

 

Beginners

  • Practice sitting on the board & turning while waiting for waves

  • More independence in catching waves

  • Introduction to small angled rides across the wave face

  • Group sharing: challenges & confidence building

 

Intermediates

  • Reading sets & positioning for priority

  • Refining bottom/top turns, linking maneuvers

  • Navigating crowded lineups with awareness and etiquette

  • Breath & visualization: preparing for wipeouts calmly

Week 3 – Wave Timing & Basic Maneuvers

 

Beginners

  • Timing waves & when to start paddling

  • Angle takeoffs to avoid straight rides

  • Riding small waves with better balance and control

  • Mindful visualization: “seeing the ride before it happens”

 

Intermediates

  • Taking off on green waves consistently

  • Bottom turns and trimming down the line

  • Introduction to cutbacks and staying in the power zone

  • Surf mindfulness: flow state techniques

Week 2 – Paddle Power & Positioning

 

Beginners

  • Paddling techniques & building endurance

  • Finding the “sweet spot” on the board

  • Catching whitewater waves independently

  • Surfing etiquette: right of way basics

 

Intermediates

  • Efficient paddling & turtle rolls/duck dives (depending on board size)

  • Positioning outside of the impact zone

  • Catching green waves with assistance

  • Breathwork for holding calm between sets

Week 1 – Ocean Awareness & Foundations

 

Beginners

  • Introduction to surf safety, etiquette, and board handling

  • Beach practice: pop-up technique, stance, balance drills

  • Whitewater surfing: catching small waves, riding straight to shore

  • Mindfulness: breathwork for focus and staying calm in the water

 

Intermediates

  • Review safety & etiquette

  • Refine pop-up speed and stance adjustments

  • Catching whitewater with turns into open-face waves

  • Visualization: wave reading & positioning practice
